Vykintas Baltakas | CLADI: „der/gelbe/klang“ (DE) ø MUSIC AUTUMN 2026

On October 10, the closing evening of the MUSIC AUTUMN (MUZIKOS RUDUO) festival - a concert by the Munich-based contemporary music ensemble der/gelbe/klang, presenting Vykintas Baltakas' complete “Cladi” cycle in Lithuania for the first time. The evet will take place at the contemporary art platform Smala.

Launched in 2020, this series explores music as a living, evolving organism. The metaphor of a branch serves as the structural foundation here: the sound material is constantly transformed, reworked, and re-embodied. Beginning with an objet trouvé - a “found” sound object - listeners are invited to embark on a journey in which the discovered material takes on ever-changing forms.

ABOUT THE PROGRAMME

Vykinto Baltako’s series “Cladi’ (from the Ancient Greek “κλάδος”—“branch”) explores music as a living, evolving organism. The botanical and biological term “cladus” refers to a common ancestor and all its descendants—a branch from which countless forms branch out. This metaphor serves as the foundation for the work’s structure and creative process.

“Cladi II” was commissioned by der/gelbe/klang in 2021, while the final work of the cycle, “Cladi Vi”, has also been commissioned for the ensemble. With the completion of the last part, the cycle can be presented in its entirety as a single evolving musical organism. In Vilnius, the complete cycle will be performed for the first time.

“Cladi” closely resonates with this year's festival theme, “Sonic Anthropology”: music is approached as a living and evolving entity, shaped not only by its final form but also by origin, kinship, transformation, and the continuous evolution of its material.

ABOUT DER/GELBE/KLANG

Munich-based der/gelbe/klang is a contemporary music ensemble founded in 2020 and dedicated to contemporary music in all its aesthetic diversity - curious, experimental, and constantly searching for new forms of expression. Close collaboration with contemporary composers is central to the ensemble's artistic practice, alongside the interpretation of key works of the 20th century and the development of interdisciplinary projects combining music with light, performance, video, and other experimental formats.

The ensemble has collaborated with guest conductors including Vladimir Jurowski, Emilio Pomàrico, Pierre-André Valade, and Vimbayi Kaziboni, and has produced recordings for Bayerischer Rundfunk, the NEOS label, and ZDF/ARTE. In 2021, der/gelbe/klang was awarded the Bayerische Kunstförderpreis.
