2 Days in Vilnius: What to Expect?
Two days are enough to see the most important sights and still find time for coffee at a courtyard café. This plan is designed for first-time visitors and optimized for walking.
Day 1: Old Town, Cathedral & Užupis
Morning (9:00-12:00)
Start at Cathedral Square. Have breakfast at one of the cafés on Pilies Street. Find the magic tile (stebuklas) in front of the Cathedral, spin three times clockwise, and make a wish. Then, climb Gediminas Castle Tower, a 10-minute ascent offering panoramic views of the Old Town's red roofs.
Midday (12:00-14:00)
Walk along Pilies Street. Discover the University courtyard, one of the most beautiful places in Vilnius. Lunch at Lokys (Lithuanian cuisine in a medieval cellar) or Etno Dvaras, where you can try cepelinai, the national dish.
Afternoon (14:00-18:00)
Cross the Vilnelė River to Užupis, the self-proclaimed Artists' Republic. Read its Constitution on mirrored plaques (in 60 languages). Visit the Angel statue and the galleries.
Return via Bernardinų Street: St. Anne's Church and St. Peter and St. Paul's Church (2000 stucco sculptures).
Evening
Rooftop aperitif, Hotel Pacai or Stikliai. Dinner at Džiaugsmas or Gaspar's. Craft beer at Bambalynė.
Day 2: Museums, Market & Modern Vilnius
Morning
Halės Market Hall, a beautiful iron and glass hall with artisan stalls. Then, MO Museum for contemporary art. Walk through Naujamiestis, a trendy district with street art.
Afternoon
