Energy and Technology Museum

The Energy and Technology Museum is one of the most original and compelling museums in the Baltic states – housed in the former Vilnius Power Plant on the banks of the Neris River. A must-visit for every traveller to Vilnius. Transformation Hall – The Largest Tesla Coils in the Baltics The museum's newest and most spectacular addition is the 1,000 m² Transformation Hall (Virsmo salė): an interactive exposition exploring humanity's relationship with energy. At its heart stands a Faraday cage housing two Tesla coils – the largest in the Baltic states . During Tesla shows, visitors witness arcing laboratory lightning bolts and electrical discharges in real time. The hall also reveals the excavated foundations of the chimney from Vilnius's first public power station – a historically significant discovery whose exact location was unknown until now. Every exhibit combines historical narrative with an interactive challenge; completing challenges earns Energy Quanta redeemable for souvenirs or an official Transformation Hall Engineer's Certificate. Turbine Halls and Outdoor Exhibits The original turbine halls house massive Soviet-era generators, steam engines, and industrial machinery that powered Vilnius for decades. The outdoor grounds display historic locomotives, vintage tractors, and heavy equipment. An interactive zone invites children and adults to touch, experiment, and understand how electricity works. ETM Rooftop Terrace – Panoramic Vilnius The museum's rooftop terrace offers one of the most photogenic panoramas of the capital – from the Old Town to Žirmūnai and Šnipiškiai. An interactive replica of the legendary Lituanica aircraft awaits at the top, and in summer the terrace hosts live concerts. After museum hours, the rooftop transforms into the Elektrinė terrace bar – one of Vilnius's most stylish rooftop venues. Night Tours and Events The power plant's underground corridors and vaulted tunnels take on an entirely different atmosphere after dark. Night tours and an on-site escape room (€50, 2–4 persons) offer an unforgettable alternative to conventional sightseeing.
