A performance of sounds, scents and sensations „Mother of the Winds“
A performance of sounds, scents and sensations "Mother of the Winds" for people with visual impairments, or for those who wish to know the world in a different way. Stalo teatras invites you to a performance of sounds, scents and sensations, to see the world differently, from the perspective of darkness, "seen" not with the eyes but with the other senses – with the ears, the nose, the fingertips, and above all – with the heart. A story based on an ancient Baltic legend about a third brother who set off in search of his happiness – symbolised in the legend by a beloved maiden, or his second Sun – is told by two narrators, the voices of the story. Step by step, adventure by adventure, together with the audience they set off on a journey full of the magic of sounds, scents and winds, safely leading through meadows and forests, ferrying across rivers, soaring upward and descending to the very depths. But on one condition – the brave young viewers travel on this journey blindfolded. And they do not simply travel, but touch, feel, experience, discover the world in darkness. How is it different? How does it smell, how does it sound? Is it hard to find one's way in it? And finally – what does it mean to be blind? In the performance, as always at Stalo teatras, objects controlled by the actors come to life. In this performance they come straight from a modern kitchen, though their purpose on stage is to "play" the characters of the ancient Baltic legend. The audience may touch them, smell them, guess at them. The multi-layered verbal fabric of the storytelling – a narrative text breathing with legendary sacredness – is inventively enriched by the performance's creators with playful and unexpected sound-word refrains characteristic of Lithuanian sutartinės (polyphonic songs). According to the director, Stalo teatras dedicates the performance "Mother of the Winds" to people with visual impairments, or to those who wish to know the world in a different way. School-age viewers are therefore invited – sighted, partially sighted or fully blind. Together they will experience that darkness can not only conceal but also reveal, not only ring emptily but also resound. That in it, forests rustle and flowers bloom just the same, birds glide, ants scurry, fish dart, that it is full of sounds, movement, scents, and that being in it is not frightening at all.
