A Place You Know, but I Know Less
On Thursday, August 6, at 6 PM, we invite you to the opening of the exhibition curated by Caroline Ruz, A Place You Know, but I Know Less. SODAS 2123 (Vitebsko g. 21) In the Project Space, on the second floor. The exhibition runs until August 28. The exhibition is part of the Emerging Curators Platform. Time and distance are enough for a home to gradually become no longer quite as we remember it. The exhibition A Place You Know, but I Know Less tells the story of returning to a once familiar place and the strange feeling of realizing it is no longer your own. The five artists taking part in the exhibition also return to works they created earlier — reworking and transforming them. The exhibition asks what happens to the places we leave, and what we find in them when we return after some time. Homes do not remain unchanged in our memory: some things are forgotten, certain details become more vivid, and we fill in the gaps that appear ourselves. To return does not necessarily mean to regain what once was. It is a chance to look again at a place we thought we knew, and to see what has changed in it, what has remained, and what has disappeared altogether. The exhibition presents a video work by Laura Stasiulytė, photographs by Visvaldas Morkevičius, slides by Aurelija Maknytė, paintings by Nida Shah, and an installation by Emilija Višinskaitė. I sincerely thank Agnė Bagdžiūnaitė, Ona Juciūtė and SODAS 2123 for their constant support and help. To the artists, the technician, the designer and the exhibition architect – thank you for your trust, the time you gave, and our work together. I am deeply grateful for this opportunity, for the people I met, and for everything that grew out of this process. And, of course, thank you to Vilnius – for becoming, even if only for a while, a home.
