"TENTHING" BRASS ENSEMBLE (NORWAY) | VILNIUS WINDS
The festival will culminate with a performance by the spectacular all-female brass ensemble from Norway, tenThing. Formed by the acclaimed trumpeter Tine Thing Helseth, the ensemble has become a true symbol of Scandinavian artistry and creative energy. This group of ten talented women shatters all stereotypes about the "masculine" nature of brass instruments, performing music ranging from Baroque masterpieces to jazz standards and contemporary compositions. tenThing was established in 2007 by Norwegian trumpeter Tine Thing Helseth. This ten-member, all-female brass ensemble is renowned for its outstanding musicianship, accessible programming, and diverse repertoire. Their programs span from Mozart to Weill, Grieg to Bernstein, and Lully to Bartók. The ensemble has performed at prestigious festivals including the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, Beethovenfest Bonn, Gstaad Menuhin Festival, MDR Musiksommer, Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, and Thüringer Bachwochen, and has toured extensively in the USA, Canada, and beyond. Playing their rich and genre-defying repertoire entirely without a conductor, the ensemble highlights their exceptional cohesion and chamber music mastery while breaking down gender stereotypes in the brass world. Tine Thing Helseth is one of today's leading Norwegian trumpeters, performing with world-renowned orchestras such as the Vienna Symphony, the London Philharmonic, and the BBC Symphony Orchestra, and gaining recognition at prestigious festivals including the BBC Proms. In 2006, she won second prize at the Eurovision Young Musicians competition. In 2007, she was named "Musician of the Year" (Årets musiker) in Norway, and in 2013, she received the prestigious Echo Klassik Award.
