Anton Chekhov's „UNCLE VANYA“ (Dir. Tadas Montrimas)

A one-part (1 hr 15 min) immersive performance held at Markučiai Manor in Vilnius, Subačiaus g. 124. The performance is in Russian. For those who don't understand Russian, a guide-booklet (LT, EN, PL) will be provided before the show to help you follow and understand the story. In this innovatively staged production, the audience travels with a guide through different locations of the action, becoming invisible, silent witnesses to the events taking place there. The A. Pushkin Museum in Markučiai is the ideal setting to recreate what Chekhov himself called „scenes from provincial life“ of the late 19th century. Not only is its location convenient, and its museum rooms preserved in authentic atmosphere, but the hilly grounds around the house are also perfectly suited for staging separate scenes both inside and around the building, giving the audience a genuine sense of „time travel.“ Audience members who gather for „Uncle Vanya“ are divided into 4 groups of 15 people. Each group is assigned a guide — a “stalker” — whose task is to coordinate the audience's journey through the work Chekhov wrote in 1896. The guides will introduce their groups to the rules of the performance, the audience's duties and rights, and will hand out masks that the audience will not be allowed to remove until the very end of the show. Four separate scenes will be performed simultaneously, each watched by a different group of spectators who move through the performance space according to their guides' instructions. The rooms of Markučiai Manor are separated by doors, but both the audience and the play's characters, each within their own space, can hear life happening on the other side of the wall. The creators of „Uncle Vanya“ aim to recreate not the plot of the play but the very situation itself — the Voinitsky household, overflowing with hatred, self-torment, anger, and at the same time love and passion. We want to give the audience the conditions not only to observe, but to experience and immerse themselves as fully as possible in entirely new feelings, experiences, and emotions. The performance is in Russian.
