Ąžuoliukas Choir Presents: Norwegian Boys' Choir "Sølvguttene"

On September 29, 2026, at 7 PM, the "Ąžuoliukas" choir invites you to St. Catherine's Church in Vilnius for an encounter with one of Norway's most famous boys' choirs – "Sølvguttene" ("The Silver Boys") . Active for over eight decades, the Norwegian national broadcaster's boys' choir has become an important part of the country's musical culture. In Vilnius, the 60-singer choir will present a program featuring a blend of European classical and Norwegian music – including works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Franz Schubert, George Frideric Handel, Edvard Grieg, and the choir's artistic director Fredrik Otterstad. The music will be performed a cappella, as well as with organ and piano accompaniment. "Sølvguttene" was founded in 1940 by conductor Torstein Grythe. Today, the ensemble is the Norwegian national broadcaster (NRK) boys' choir, having won numerous national and international awards and distinguished by its unique sound and choral culture tradition. Throughout its history, "Sølvguttene" has performed in prominent European venues – Westminster Abbey in London, St. Peter's Basilica in Rome, Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, and Berlin Cathedral. The choir has collaborated with the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet, the Oslo Philharmonic and Norwegian Radio Orchestras, the National Theatre, as well as with world-renowned artists such as Kiri Te Kanawa, Barbara Hendricks, Andrea Bocelli, Diana Ross, the band "a-ha", and Norwegian singer Sissel Kyrkjebø. In Norway, the voices of "Sølvguttene" are particularly inseparable from the Christmas tradition – the choir's Christmas concerts have been an important part of the country's festive season for many years. The ensemble also regularly performs for the Norwegian Royal Family. The choir is led by Fredrik Otterstad and Frikkas Heide-Steen. Artistic director F. Otterstad studied at the University of Oslo and the Norwegian Academy of Music, while choir director F. Heide-Steen studied at the Norwegian Academy of Music and Bårdar Academy of Musical Theatre. In Vilnius, Norwegian organist Otto Christian Odland will perform with the choir – he is the organist of St. Olav's Catholic Cathedral in Oslo and a lecturer at the Norwegian Academy of Music. The artist, who performs in Norway, other European countries, and the USA, has been collaborating with "Sølvguttene" for fourteen years. This autumn, "Sølvguttene" embarks on a concert tour of Latvia and Lithuania. In Riga, the Norwegian singers will meet with the Riga Boys' Choir, and in Vilnius – with the boys' and youth choir "Ąžuoliukas".
