"Baltic Echoes" – Monika Dars (piano)

The NESSUN DORMA Night Concert Marathon Festival invites you to pianist Monika Dars' recital "Baltic Echoes" – a subtle musical journey through the soundscapes of Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia. This program brings together four prominent creators from the Baltic region: Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis, Arvo Pärt, Pēteris Vasks, and Zita Bružaitė. Their music reveals the unique relationship with nature, silence, light, and inner contemplation characteristic of the Baltic lands. Winter and summer landscapes, the expanse of the lagoon, meditative tranquility, and poetic imagination merge into a cohesive musical narrative. M. K. Čiurlionis' work holds a special place in the program. Preludes and Sonata in F major will be performed, opening up the distinctive world of Lithuanian musical romanticism. Alongside them are early and mature opuses by Estonian minimalist classic Arvo Pärt, meditative landscapes by Latvian composer Pēteris Vasks, and Zita Bružaitė's "Marios" (The Lagoon), inspired by the spirit of the Baltic Sea region. Monika Dars is an internationally acclaimed pianist who performs in Europe, North and South America, and Asia. As a soloist, she has played with the Lithuanian State Symphony, Kaunas City Symphony, Warsaw Philharmonic Chamber, Lviv Chamber, Melomania Symphony, and M. K. Čiurlionis National School of Arts Symphony Orchestras. In chamber music, she has collaborated with renowned European artists and participated in prestigious festivals in Belgium, Sweden, Spain, Portugal, Denmark, and Poland. The pianist's artistic journey is marked by significant international accolades, including the Joseph Darche Piano Prize, winner of the "Supernova" Chamber Music Competition in Belgium, 1st place in the "Nordic Strings" Competition in Denmark, 2nd place in the Luigi Nono Competition in Italy, and other awards. Her recordings are broadcast on radio and television programs in various European countries, and her discography features critically acclaimed albums "Vasks & Brahms Piano Quartets" and "Resi".
