BASS_4 | Lithuanian Landscapes for Double Bass Quartet | PLAYGROUND
BASS_4 | Lithuanian Landscapes for Double Bass Quartet An event of the PLAYGROUND new music concert series 22 September, Tuesday, 6:00 p.m. Sapieha Palace, L. Sapiegos St. 13, Vilnius How is the sound of the Lithuanian landscape changing? In the programme of the double bass quartet Bass_4, it unfolds through fragments of musical memory and the perspective of today's Lithuanian composers. Adaptations of M. K. Čiurlionis's piano preludes meet Dominykas Digimas's "Juniper Reminiscent", Rita Mačiliūnaitė's "Vanishing Prayer" and Andrius Šiurys's "Beethoven: Psychedelic Variations". Different musical languages of the composers, and different ways of listening to the same landscape. The wide-ranging programme lets listeners hear the full breadth of the double bass quartet's sound, from subtle timbral nuances and a meditative sonic space to energetic rhythmic language and contemporary performance techniques. The works presented on the debut album of the double bass quartet Bass_4 and in this concert reflect the ensemble's creative direction: the ambition to expand the original repertoire for this line-up, to encourage the work of Lithuanian composers, and to open up new possibilities of the double bass as a chamber instrument.
