A LITTLE THEORY: Blacksmithing is one of the oldest crafts. In ancient times, it often also involved prospecting for ore and smelting metal. The true Metal Age began once humanity learned to work metal thermally. The oldest known iron artifacts are about 4,000 years old. Among some peoples, blacksmiths were regarded almost as sorcerers. Notably, in many of the world's religions, the only "working" god was a "blacksmith god" – Hephaestus among the Greeks, Vulcan among the Romans, and Svarog in the religions of the Slavic peoples. And it's no wonder: seemingly out of nothing – from iron ore, a dirty, grey lump of stone – they managed to create so many wonderful things: work tools and household items, weapons, jewelry. Early works were characterized by artistic expression and decoration with ornaments and reliefs, while later ones took on a more functional purpose. → Interested in blacksmithing?
