Bolling. Acoustic Evening | City Laboratory

In a beloved Vilnius venue, music will fill the air where classical elegance meets the spirit of a jazz wanderer. We will hear Claude Bolling’s “Concert for Classical Guitar and Jazz Piano Trio” — a work encoding diverse world music and a playfully mischievous spirit of improvisation. Claude Bolling (1930–2020) was a French jazz pianist and composer who united two seemingly different worlds: classical music and jazz. His famous concert for classical guitar is like a seven-colour musical mosaic where Spanish and Mexican rhythms, baroque grandeur, blues freedom, romantic melodies, and even the energy of African dances intertwine! On stage — an authentic chamber ensemble: Rokas Jurkus — a classical guitar virtuoso creating the melodic axis and masterfully balancing between classical discipline and improvisational freedom. Kamilė Zaveckaitė — piano, where jazz expression and classical elegance merge, guiding the music through an authentic shift of moods. Bernardas Ručinskas — double bass, a firm yet flexible foundation upon which the entire musical architecture of the piece rests. Rokas Generauskas — percussion, breathing life, shifts of tempo and character, transporting dynamics into new spaces. Bolling’s spirit will be reborn just before the start of summer in a concert like a musical bowling game — notes and instrumental parts rolling like balls down a lane, each time aiming at a different pin... oh! At a different climax and at a different instrumental solo! And before taking aim at the concert’s main set of pins — Bolling — the quartet will warm up the audience with the charming vocalist Eivilė Miceikaitė, singing to the sound of Rokas Jurkus’s guitar.
