Book presentation and discussion: "Bronisław Piłsudski, Dziennik 1882–1885"

We kindly invite you to the presentation and discussion of Bronisław Piłsudski's diary book "Bronisław Piłsudski, Dziennik 1882–1885" (Lithuanian: "Bronislovo Pilsudskio dienoraštis 1882–1885") at Istorijų namai on June 18 at 4 PM. Bronisław Piłsudski (1866–1918) was born in the Zalavas manor, into a Polish-Lithuanian family. He identified not only as Polish but also as Samogitian and Lithuanian, and was a dedicated museologist and researcher, leaving behind astonishing results of his work. Bronisław Piłsudski's diary study from 1882–1885 is a valuable autobiographical source, perfectly complementing the knowledge accumulated so far about the young Piłsudski, who later became a Siberian exile, ethnographer, and expert on East Asia. The book reveals a portrait of daily life in multicultural, multi-confessional Vilnius, and the grim atmosphere of a city broken by Russian repression. The diary manuscript is a literary document preserved in the collections of the Wroblewski Library of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences. Discussion participants : hab. dr. Jolanta Żyndul (book editor), prof. hab. dr. Leszek Zasztowt (reviewer), prof. Rimantas Miknys (historian, topic expert). The discussion will be moderated by anthropologist dr. Anna Pilarczyk-Palaitis. The event will be held in Lithuanian and Polish with simultaneous translation. The event is organized by the National Institute of Polish Cultural Heritage Abroad POLONIKA. Event partner – Polish Institute in Vilnius.
