ČIURLIONIS' ECHOES Serenity. Fury. Eternity.

Vincenzo De Martino (Italy–Lithuania) piano The summer evenings of the NESSUN DORMA Night Concert Marathon Festival invite you not only to listen to music but also to discover unexpected dialogues between cultures, eras, and artistic worlds. Italian pianist Vincenzo De Martino, who has been living in Lithuania for over a decade and consistently seeks connections between Lithuanian and Italian musical cultures in his creative work, will present one such encounter to the audience. This evening, the performer will present a new program, "Čiurlionis' Echoes," which resonates with the 150th birth anniversary of Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis. Although the official anniversary year has passed, this echo is truly infinite – it is constantly reborn in new performances, research, and artistic discoveries, re-interpreting the work of the brilliant Lithuanian composer and painter. The program is a three-part musical journey: "Serenity," "Fury," and "Eternity," uniting the sound worlds of Čiurlionis and Italian composers and revealing the connections between humanity, nature, and the universe. The musical narrative highlights subtle yet intriguing ties between Lithuanian and Italian cultures, reflecting their aesthetics and worldviews at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Čiurlionis' preludes meet here with works by Gian Francesco Malipiero, Alfredo Casella, Giovanni Sgambati, and Nino Rota, allowing listeners to hear unexpected harmonies from different cultures. The idea behind this program naturally continues the pianist's own creative direction. Vincenzo De Martino often curates programs based on known or self-discovered musical parallels between Lithuania and Italy. Among these are projects performed in various Lithuanian and Italian cities, inviting audiences to view the cultures of both countries not as separate worlds, but as part of a common European musical tradition. Vincenzo De Martino was born in Cagliari (Italy), studied at the Cagliari State Conservatory, and later at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre.
