Conductor SYLVAIN CAMBRELING, the "new queen of the violin" ELDBJØRG HEMSING, LNSO

This autumn Lithuanian audiences await a special musical event – a unique opportunity to see two exceptional musical figures in one evening. On October 24, the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra will be conducted by the renowned French conductor Sylvain Cambreling, artistic director and chief conductor of the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra. The concert's soloist will be the internationally acclaimed Norwegian violinist Eldbjørg Hemsing. The concert will take place at the LVSO Concert Hall. Over a career spanning more than five decades, Sylvain Cambreling has devoted himself to symphonic music and opera, earning an outstanding reputation as a masterful interpreter of contemporary music and a conductor of remarkably wide artistic range. The conductor himself describes his artistic scope as spanning "from Monteverdi to tomorrow." Cambreling has conducted at the world's most important opera houses – the Metropolitan Opera in New York, La Scala in Milan, the Vienna State Opera, English National Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Paris National Opera and La Monnaie in Brussels – and has also served as artistic director and general music director of Frankfurt Opera. He is also regularly invited to conduct the world's most famous orchestras, including the Vienna, Berlin, Munich and Oslo Philharmonics, the Cleveland Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the San Francisco Symphony and the Montreal Symphony Orchestra. Cambreling is also a welcome presence at the most prestigious festivals: on the stages of the Lucerne, Salzburg and Vienna festivals, the Ruhrtriennale and the Glyndebourne Festival Opera, he has continually expanded his repertoire, conducting both classical and 20th–21st century masterpieces. His interpretations are valued for their clarity, precision and deep emotional impact, and his original concert programmes are known for skilfully blending works from the Baroque to contemporary music. Since 2018, Cambreling has been chief conductor and artistic director of the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra. Appearing as soloist in this concert will be one of today's most outstanding violinists – Norwegian Eldbjørg Hemsing , whose sensitive musicality, exceptional lyricism and breathtaking virtuosity have earned international acclaim from critics and audiences alike. Klassik-Talente named her "the new queen of the violin", while Broadway World wrote of her performances: "When Hemsing plays, time seems to stand still." The violinist performs in the world's most prestigious concert halls – New York's Lincoln Center, London's Wigmore Hall, the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing – and has also performed at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert in Oslo. She actively collaborates with today's most renowned composers, including Tan Dun, Anders Hillborg, Alexandre Desplat and others. Hemsing's creative work is not limited to the concert hall alone – her playing can also be heard in films and TV series. Hemsing's violin features on the soundtrack of Netflix's "Frankenstein", and she has also performed on one of the most popular series of recent years, "Bridgerton". Signed to an exclusive recording contract with Sony Classical, Eldbjørg Hemsing combines masterpieces of the classical repertoire with contemporary works on her albums, devoting considerable attention to promoting Nordic music around the world. Her discography includes the albums "Grieg Violin Sonatas", "Arctic", "Colors of Bach", and her latest recording, "Hillborg: Violin Concerto No. 2 / Liquid Marble", recorded together with Esa-Pekka Salonen and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra. Playing the legendary 1707 "Rivaz Baron Gutmann" Stradivarius violin, Hemsing's performances and recordings stand out for their artistic vision, depth and originality. The Strad magazine described her playing as "a wondrous combination of purity and a fervent, Heifetz-like intensity of temperament", while Variety wrote of the violinist: "She draws a pure sound. She doesn't play romantically – she plays beautifully." Alongside her intensive concert schedule, Eldbjørg Hemsing is actively involved in cultural diplomacy initiatives and supports the younger generation of musicians, representing Norwegian culture on the international stage.
