Cosmic Saturday of Educational Activities

Spend a Saturday at the observatory in Vilnius! Join us for the Sky Explorers astronomy session on 12 September at 12 noon. We invite all visitors to the observatory, young and old, to a creative workshop in which we will travel through time and get to know the work of an astronomer 100 years ago and today. We will find out who astronomers are, what they do, and what their workplace and tools looked like in the past. Later we will explore the astronomer's most important instruments: two different telescopes. You will learn how they evolved over time, and how and what astronomers observed with them. Like real astronomers, you will learn to use a sky object search app, and you can test your own strength by rotating the 100-year-old observatory dome! After comparing how astronomers worked 100 years ago and today, we will talk about the challenges and discoveries of an astronomer's work, what qualities and knowledge are needed to become a scientist, and how astronomers will work in the future. We look forward to welcoming the curious to the session "½ The Spectrum of Light" on 12 September at 2 p.m. Did you know that light is not always visible? Sunlight reaches the Earth in both the visible and invisible parts of the electromagnetic spectrum. During the session we will dive into a broad world full of light and colour. Through an experiment and a creative workshop we will try to answer the question of what light is, examine the subtleties of the colour spectrum, find out how many colours a human can see, get to know the invisible part of the world around us, and try to glimpse what cannot be seen. The sessions are intended for families with children (pupils in grades 1 to 4). Duration: 1 hour Price: EUR 5 per person Meeting point: VU Observatory of Ideas (M. K.
