Dance Performance | A Guilt That Was Never Mine

On September 26 at 4 PM, the Menų Spaustuvė (Arts Printing House) will host the premiere of the dance performance „A Guilt That Was Never Mine“. Duration: 35 min Recommended age rating: N14 ______ Men are taught to be strong, unbreakable, but what happens when that strength is turned against ourselves? When our bodies betray us and leave us doubting our own worth, our own identity. „A Guilt That Was Never Mine“ is a sensitive and visual account of lived traumatic experiences, instilled guilt and the body's memory. Through the language of movement, the piece reveals how experiences of violence become etched into our bodies and shape our relationship with ourselves and with the world around us. The piece tells the story of a person seeking to break free from an environment dominated by aggression and violence. But in fleeing, he is confronted with the question of what remains when you renounce inherited patterns of behaviour. Here he confronts anew the concept of masculinity – is it possible to separate masculinity from aggression and destructive behaviour patterns? Healing, in this piece, begins with acknowledgment and the decision to no longer stay silent – from the moment one realises that the guilt one carries does not belong to oneself, and that past events need not define one's identity, The dance performance speaks through a personal yet universal experience – about masculinity, fragility and liberation. On stage, the body becomes not only the centre of the narrative but also an archive, holding the wounds of the past and the liberation from them. Adrian Carlo Bibiano is a contemporary dance creator, dancer, choreographer and educator who has been working in Lithuania since 2019. Born in Ontario (Canada) and raised in Acapulco (Mexico), he shaped his artistic experience in an international context, and in recent years has been actively engaged in the Lithuanian contemporary dance scene. A member of the NUEPIKO dance company and the Lithuanian Contemporary Dance Association. The artist also takes part in international projects, including „Dance Well“, which combines art and social inclusion. In Bibiano's work, bodily expression, emotional states and the search for identity are central. His choreographic works have been presented on theatre and dance stages, and his piece „Sufficient Distance“ won the Kaunas theatre community's „Fortūna“ award. In 2022 the artist received the Lithuanian Ministry of Culture's „Debut of the Year“ award.
