Screening of the documentary film “Ainu puri”

Shigeki Amanai – Shige – lives in the town of Shiranuka on Hokkaido Island. In a life breathing to the rhythm of the modern world, he consciously chooses to follow the path of his ancestors: practicing ainu puri, the traditional Ainu way of life, where daily routine is intertwined with rituals, respect for nature, and ancestral wisdom. Together with his son Motoki, he goes fishing, passing down the ancient marep (salmon fishing) techniques – not just as a craft, but as a philosophy of life. The camera sensitively and intimately follows the family's daily life, revealing their relationship with tradition, identity, and a changing world.
