Tour "In the Shadow of the Altars: Bernardine Church and Monastery"
The Bernardines were masters of public speaking, drawing crowds with their sermons. Upon arriving in Vilnius, they needed a spacious church, which required a large plot of land. They found just the spot on the outskirts of the city's Orthodox quarter—a swampy, overgrown area near the road to Polotsk. Over time, a church and monastery rose here, gardens bloomed, vegetable patches filled the air with the scent of herbs, and bathhouses were established along the Vilnia River. Why should you join this tour? In the Bernardine Church, you can find solutions to many of life's problems: suffering from stomach issues? St. Bonaventure will help. Want to get married? St. Anthony is your guide. Struggling with advertising? Turn to St. Bernardine. And Mary Magdalene will offer advice on beauty treatments. During the tour, you will get to go "underground" in Vilnius by visiting the crypts, while the photos you take from the attic will look like they were shot from an airplane. By the way, if you are planning a trip, you can sort out your travel insurance right here and learn a thing or two about Japan. This is a journey through the church's spaces—colored in brown and white, just like the habits of its former residents. Start and end point: Bernardine Churchyard, Maironio St. 10, Vilnius Duration: approx. 2 hours Please bring your pre-purchased ticket. Free for children under 12. Please note that the organizers may take photos and videos during the tour for promotional purposes. Contacts: Vaida +370 604 43032 Agnė +370 682 80981 vilniuscitytours@gmail.com
