Tour of the “Living Puppet Museum”

The theater museum's exhibition is cozily set up in several small rooms next to the Small Hall. It neatly displays a vast collection of puppets, masks, and scenography elements from past performances. All of these props are crafted in the workshops located within the very same building. The exhibition is constantly updated, which is why the museum is called “living”. What are the different types of theatrical puppets? Where does the word “marionette” come from? Which famous directors and artists created performances at the Vilnius “Lėlė” Theater? How can you make a puppet theater at home? How long must an actor train their fingers to control a marionette? What makes puppet theater so special and different from other arts? During the tour of the Living Puppet Museum, these and many other questions will be answered by Rimas Driežis, a puppet theater historian, director, and artist.
