Tour of Vilnius's Monster: History and Energy Transformation

Employees say you never know what the Monster will surprise you with, so be prepared for surprises. Together with a guide, you will walk through the power plant's streets, stroll through the Monster's corridors, visit the basement made famous by the HBO series 'Chernobyl', and most importantly, be among the first to witness the ongoing energy transformation and the construction site of a green hydrogen plant. The vast territory, covering more than 20 hectares, is like a small town with its own streets, history, and secrets. In its center stands a red-brick building, nicknamed the Monster by its employees. From here, heat travels through more than 770 km of pipes, like blood vessels, to the homes of Vilnius residents. How is it generated? What equipment hums inside the Monster? Why are bullets found in biomass fuel? Welcoming visitors from afar with its tall chimneys, Vilnius Combined Heat and Power Plant No. 2 invites you to learn and understand how heat, hot water, and electricity are generated, and to see firsthand how efficient innovations are replacing old technologies. It is one of the most interesting operational industrial sites in the Baltic States. Participants in the tour must comply with all safety requirements , stay with the group, and not touch any equipment. Throughout the tour, participants must wear helmets and high-visibility vests provided by the organizers. Part of the tour takes place outdoors, and part indoors, so please consider the weather conditions and ensure you wear appropriate clothing.
