Exhibition Tour with the Curator: "Caravaggio and the Caravaggisti at Valdovų rūmai"
For the first time in the history of Lithuanian museology, the exhibition presents "Mary Magdalene in Ecstasy", a masterpiece by the Baroque genius Caravaggio (born Michelangelo Merisi, 1571–1610). While it is not known for certain whether the artist's original works were ever part of historical Lithuanian art collections, the works of his followers—distinguished by their dramatic play of light and vivid realism—undoubtedly adorned and continue to adorn Lithuanian estates, churches, museums, and private collections. The permanent exhibitions of the Valdovų rūmai museum also feature several works by Caravaggio's followers, testifying to the lasting impact and vitality of the tradition he initiated. Even the artist's rivals could not resist the uniqueness of his style. Thus, the display of Caravaggio's "Mary Magdalene in Ecstasy" at Valdovų rūmai is set within a rich context, allowing visitors to appreciate the genius creator's influence on the development of European art and to discover the works of the so-called Caravaggisti. During this guided tour with the exhibition curator, you will learn about more than just the artist's work—you will also discover his equally fascinating personality and dramatic life. Duration: 1 hour. Price: €10. The tour is conducted in Lithuanian for a maximum group size of 20 people. Tickets are non-refundable.
