Vilnius University Tour – July 11

According to Adam Honory Kirkor, the Jesuit monks of Vilnius University sold sweet vodka and tobacco, earning so much that they built the magnificent Vingis Palace. This is just one of many fascinating details from the long history of Vilnius University. Why did the university change its name more than ten times, and why was the nearby street paved with wooden blocks? What was the daily life of monks and students like, and what offenses could get you sent to the detention cell? Where in the historic ensemble can you find the signs of the zodiac, the Saints Johns, and figures of Lithuanian ancestors? During the tour, we will visit the Vilnius University architectural ensemble and its courtyards, the Church of St. Johns, and a unique attraction in the lobby of the Faculty of Philology – the fresco "The Seasons" by Petras Repšys. Please note that there is an entrance fee for the Vilnius University ensemble: Adults: €3; Schoolchildren: €2; Free for VU staff and students. The guided tour itself is free, but you are welcome to thank the guide with a tip at the end. Start: July 11, 2026, at 10:00 AM. Universiteto g. 3, Library Courtyard (opposite the Presidential Palace). Prior REGISTRATION via SMS is required (please send a text message with your name and the number of participants).
