Sometimes she secretly climbs onto the roof of her apartment building to smoke a cigarette. It is the only thing she does purely for herself. But one day everything changes: early in the morning she hangs out the laundry, cooks lunch, buys food for the fish, and... robs a bank with a small kitchen knife. „Woman on the Roof“ is a moving film made by women, directed and written by Anna Jadowska. It is a painfully realistic and remarkably beautiful film in which Jadowska tells the story of one of the millions of invisible Polish mothers in a completely different way – almost in a whisper. She does not reach for loud phrases or seek dramatic scenes. Mirka's truth lies elsewhere – in small gestures, fear-filled glances, and the barely noticeable inner transformation of a sixty-year-old woman. Dorota Pomykała won several awards for her outstanding role in this film, including the Eagle (the Polish Film Academy Award) and the award for best leading actress at the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia.
