This is the final performance A two-act drama (2 hr 30 min), performed in Russian with Lithuanian surtitles. Written by Éric-Emmanuel Schmitt in 1999, the play "Hotel Between Two Worlds" (Fr. "Hôtel des deux mondes") is like a blend of melodrama and a fairy tale for adults. People from different social and age groups who have fallen into a coma find themselves trapped in a closed, labyrinthine, mysterious hotel from which there is no escape. Although their real bodies lie in hospitals, here they are physically healthy. Some know what has happened to them, others only grasp it in the present moment, but all wait anxiously for the fateful moment when they will be called to the lift, which will either rise upward - into oblivion - or descend - returning them to the world of the living. After a car accident, Julien Portal ends up in the "hotel", where he meets people he has never known before, reflects on life and death, and learns to love. This compelling performance, full of subtle humor and lyrical tones, raises many moral and philosophical questions. What is life, and how does a person squander it? Before the premiere of "Hotel Between Two Worlds", the playwright said that his philosophy is a form of existentialism, opposed to Jean-Paul Sartre's but closer to Blaise Pascal and Søren Kierkegaard. According to the playwright, there is nothing absurd in the universe, only mystery, in which the reasons for faith lie hidden. É.-E. Schmitt's dialogues are exceptional: masterful, subtle, and the playwright is able to speak simply about complex things. These are the marks of talent. The performance's composer, Giedrius Puskunigis, won the "Golden Stage Cross" in 2008 for the music to this drama and to William Shakespeare's "The Tempest" (dir. Etienne Glaser). Incidentally, one of the most prominent actors of the Vilnius Old Theatre, Vladimir Yefremov (1942-2009), also performed in this production. "Director S. Račkys regards himself, the characters and the audience without distinction - as people, ordinary and sinful, each of whose life stories deserves love and respect. This greatly helps the performance connect with the audience, allowing them to identify with the characters through shared experience and longing. There is sentiment - almost every character in the play wipes away a tear (perhaps some of the more sensitive lonely hearts in the audience do too). Set designer R. Valčik used minimal means to create an aesthetic environment that hints at both a waiting room and a hospital. Small people in a vast space. A huge creaking lift at the back of the stage both attracts and frightens the characters. The actors, almost with their backs to the audience, must portray an anxious, fearful journey into the unknown - walking a dozen or so steps toward the lift. The plastic sterility of the setting is also broken up by the rhythmic movement of two trusting, escorting figures (Inga Maškarina, Valentinas Novopolskis). And G.
