Footprints in Motion: DISPLAY | Nuua Company

The latest performance, DISPLAY by the Finnish troupe Nuua Company, merges the worlds of visual art and contemporary circus. The concept of the show is an art exhibition created live on stage. In the hands of two jugglers, both the arrangement of artworks and their display mechanisms become the very material of the performance. These elements create light, poetic, and sometimes even comical situations, gradually forming an exhibition. The performance is accompanied by live music from Konsta Leinonen, and the entire process culminates in an exhibition that opens its doors to the audience. The creative process is rooted in material-driven and embodied research – an intuitive exploration where the simple, physical form of each object contributes to the aesthetics and dramaturgy of the performance. Every movement, every grasp of an object, and every bodily gesture creates a subtle dialogue between body and matter. By bringing the refined and unique interactions of objects and bodies, characteristic of Nuua Company's work, into the realm of visual art, DISPLAY offers a different way of experiencing art. The performance is not presented as a finished image, form, or statement – it is a constantly evolving process where beauty, uncertainty, and a touch of absurd humor coexist. The show can unlock unexpected imaginative spaces in the viewer's mind. The surprising interactions of objects and bodies spark imagination and invite a re-evaluation of one's personal relationship with movement and art.
