Forbidden Scents. (Non) Perfumery | Culture Night
At the heart of the olfactory exhibition lies a paradox: some natural perfumery materials, used for centuries, smell unexpectedly or even repulsively in their pure form. Some resemble animal secretions, cellars, damp earth, or human body odors. Yet, it is precisely these materials, used in microscopic doses, that create warmth, depth, longevity, and the so-called “living” dimension of a scent in perfumery. Visitors to the exhibition will have the opportunity to discover some legendary perfumery raw materials, considered among the most interesting and controversial in history. In their pure form, the scent of these materials can evoke animal secretions, sweat, damp rooms, smoke, or earthy fermentation odors. However, in perfumery, they transform into subtle, warm, leathery, amber, or animalic notes that give perfumes character, depth, and uniqueness. The exhibition invites you to experience a process of transformation: from a “forbidden” scent to perfumery aesthetics. Installations will be presented as a sensory experience where scent merges with light, space, and visual aesthetics. Admission to the exhibition is free. The exhibition Forbidden Scents. (Non) Perfumery is part of the Culture Night festival.
