Free Admission to Liepkalnis Water Reservoir on July 26th!
Summer is melting away fast β only 7 summer weekends left! On July 26th (Sunday), we invite everyone to free guided tours of the water reservoir. This is a great opportunity to see a unique place up close, learn its history, and hear interesting facts. You will enjoy free guided tours in one of Vilnius's most impressive underground spaces β a water reservoir located 5 meters deep, famous for its exceptional acoustics where sound can echo multiple times. The Liepkalnis Water Reservoir is a unique engineering heritage of Vilnius. It was built in 1916 under Liepkalnis Hill and for over a century was an important part of the city's water supply system, belonging to the water management company Vilniaus vandenys. It is one of the largest underground structures of its kind in Lithuania. The reservoir was used until 1987 and for a long time was closed and protected as a strategic object. Since 2023, it has been opened to visitors β tours here are organized by the Energy and Technology Museum, and the space is gradually becoming a venue for culture and events, utilizing its impressive acoustics, vaults, and industrial architecture.
