Free Sunday Tour: “At the Ruler’s Table: From Borscht to Cold Beet Soup”

Today we cannot imagine our lives without šaltibarsčiai, and for many years now we have been starting the summer season with the lively Šaltibarsčių Festival. Written sources mention šaltibarsčiai as early as the 17th century, and the poet A. Mickevičius refers to them in his work “Pan Tadeusz”. But were the old šaltibarsčiai the same rich pink colour? What ingredients did the ruler’s cook P. Tremo use? What recipe did his pupil J. Szyttleris leave behind?
