Guided tour of the exhibition “Hidden Within” with a visit to the Cathedral crypts

We invite you to experience the thrill of discovery and to feel the tension of a historic moment - not only to see the 16th-century regalia of the rulers of Lithuania and Poland, but also to visit the crypts of Vilnius Cathedral, the very place where they were found, together with the royal mausoleum. In the Cathedral crypts you will see the royal crypt discovered in 1931, after an exceptionally severe flood of the Neris and Vilnia rivers struck Vilnius, as well as the royal mausoleum designed in 1936-1939 but left unfinished at the outbreak of the Second World War. The story continues in the exhibition “Hidden Within”. There we will look at the echoes of the discoveries of 1931, 1985 and 2024, which invite a fresh look at the history of the treasury and at the contexts of its concealment and rediscovery. You will learn what the funerary insignia placed in the grave symbolised and become acquainted with the other treasures found in the hiding place - queens' jewellery testifying to the mastery of Renaissance goldsmiths, a collection of gemstones, and the plaques and votive offerings from the Chapel of St Casimir in Vilnius Cathedral.
