Guided Tour
Since this Saturday's group is full, I'm forming an additional group for this Sunday - May 31st! Did you know that Vilnius has a Samogitian character? This journey begins at the monument to King Mindaugas, where the first foundations of our state were laid – firmly Samogitian, I dare say! After all, our great rulers – from Mindaugas and Gediminas to Vytautas – built their power relying precisely on the loyalty and unbreakable strength of the Samogitians! Do you think Vilnius is just princes' dreams and baroque curves? What if I tell you that without Samogitian stubbornness, Vilnius would sound completely different today: from the dust on Simonas Daukantas's shoes to the intrigues of Žemaitė's 'scarf' and the tough characters who shaped the capital? And what if the Lithuanianist movement of Samogitian nobility at Vilnius University in the early 19th century hadn't been 'extinguished' by the university's closure, and this movement had grown into a huge national revival with a powerful Samogitian code?! How would Vilnius residents speak today…? Come to the tour 'Samogitian Tough Vilnius' and you will see the city through the prism of character. It will be truly interesting and 'tough'!
