Hedwig and the Angry Inch | The Musical
The legendary musical "Hedwig and the Angry Inch," celebrating rock music and human transformation, comes to Lithuania for the first time. In 1998, Hedwig, born from John Cameron Mitchell's book, stepped onto the off-Broadway stage – a rock diva navigating between genders, political regimes, and (un)happy loves, who had heard since childhood in East Germany that to get anywhere, she had to leave a piece of herself behind each time. Just a couple of years later, Stephen Trask's musical reached the main stages of West End and Broadway and remains to this day one of the most famous works of its genre, celebrating the LGBTQ+ community and appreciated for both its music and its engaging narrative. At its heart is Hedwig, finding her place in the sun every night and experiencing the most open journey towards it each evening. Filled with humor and a powerful sound, "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" is a celebration where music touches everyone who has ever felt rejected, misunderstood, or unloved, and the story gently invites everyone to meet their true self. The charismatic Hedwig will be embodied by the well-known actor and singer Dominykas Vaitiekūnas, while his main stage partner, Ytzak, will be portrayed by film and theater actress Asta Zacharovaitė. Augustas Gornatkevičius, who is directing the musical, states: "Hedwig is one of the most iconic queer characters in the world. She serves as a certain reference point or a symbol from which we measure the path we've traveled – both our community's and the entire world's. I am very happy that Hedwig is finally coming to Lithuania."
