Herbal Family Weekend
The House of Histories of the Lithuanian National Museum once again invites families to spend summer weekends together this year: learning, exploring, and having fun in the museum's spaces and surrounded by the greenery of the courtyard. Family Weekends offer activities for museum visitors of all ages: from the youngest to the oldest. In anticipation of Žolinės (Assumption Day), the third Family Weekend, taking place on August 8th, will be dedicated to herbs and ancient Lithuanian traditions, which we will get to know better through various creative activities and educational workshops. PROGRAM 11 AM. Family tour in the ethnography repository "Kaukas and other mythical creatures" (led by Audronė Daraškevičienė, educator at Istorijų namai) On this tour, we will journey through a special place in Istorijų namai – the ethnography repository-exhibition, where thousands of rural objects created 200-300 years ago, brought here from various parts of Lithuania, are preserved. To make it interesting not only for parents but also for children, we will look beyond just the objects. We will try to see what lies hidden behind them. And behind them lies an entire world, full of various creatures from the otherworld. Some are inclined to help people, others to harm. Be prepared to hear many tales and legends that will be both instructive and entertaining, and sometimes – a bit spooky. Intended for families with children aged 6 and older. Number of places is limited, so registration is required: https://forms.cloud.microsoft/e/7CFBrbgn31?origin=lprLink 12 PM. Traditional Lithuanian folk games and circle dances (led by educators from Vilniaus etninės kultūros centras) Traditional Lithuanian folk games are a fun and engaging educational experience, inviting participants to get acquainted with ancient Lithuanian games that have delighted both children and adults since time immemorial. This is a folklore genre with a lot of improvisational freedom, encouraging children to seek creative solutions, initiating problem-solving searches, and speaking in a playful way about human relationships.
