Hidden Within: Divine and Royal Treasures. Guided Tour of the Exhibition

“Slėpti savyje” (“Hidden Within”) is a long-awaited exhibition revealing more than one secret of Vilnius Cathedral. Before your eyes will shine the treasury’s gold and gem-encrusted liturgical vessels, priestly vestments embroidered with silver thread will shimmer, relics of saints’ bodies will take your breath away, and, of course, the exhibition’s crowning highlight – arguably the greatest 21st-century discovery in Lithuania – the royal regalia. You will hear when, why, and where the remains of Grand Duke Alexander and two wives of Sigismund Augustus, Elisabeth of Habsburg and Barbora Radvilaitė, were hidden in the cathedral, and you will see their posthumous crowns, sceptre, sword, and other royal grave goods. The treasury of Vilnius Cathedral holds priceless works of art that tell the story of our country, bear witness to traditions of patronage and craftsmanship, reveal the international ties that linked the Grand Duchy of Lithuania with numerous other European countries, and recall graces prayed for from God by the faithful, along with the truest of miracles. The exhibition invites you on a journey through time via the treasury’s discoveries in 1931, 1985, and 2024, interwoven with stories of its concealment in 1655, 1939, and 1991. Tour duration ~1.5 hours. We meet at the ticket office. A separate ticket to the museum itself must be purchased , so we recommend arriving earlier. The exhibition spaces will be opened specially for us at a more convenient time, so we can calmly view both this exhibition and the additional spaces. For this reason, the group needs to be full. So if you see a suitable date, we encourage you not to delay – invite your friends and plan this experience in advance. Please do not be late, and keep a copy of your ticket saved on your phone.
