Join us to commemorate the Baltic Way
On August 23rd at 12 PM, we invite Vilnius residents and city guests to gather at the memorial pillar dedicated to the Baltic Way, next to the Šeškinė Polyclinic, and together commemorate one of Lithuania's most important symbols of freedom and unity. It was right here, in Šeškinė, on August 23rd, 1989, that the living chain of the Baltic Way stretched along Ukmergė Street. Today, this historic spot is marked by a wooden memorial pillar, commemorating the unity of the three Baltic nations and their shared pursuit of freedom. This year, attendees will be greeted by a renovated area around the memorial pillar. New paths and steps have been installed in the square, the area around the pillar has been tidied up, and shrubs and perennial plants have been planted. The renovated space has become a cozier place for community gatherings and for commemorating important historical occasions. During the commemoration, songs by the Šeškinė Community Ensemble will be performed, and all attendees will enjoy kite workshops and bracelet making – activities symbolically reminding us of togetherness, freedom, and the bonds that unite us. We invite you to gather on August 23rd, to remember the history of the Baltic Way and the feeling of unity that connected Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia in 1989. We meet on August 23rd at 12 PM at the memorial pillar dedicated to the Baltic Way, next to the Šeškinė Polyclinic.
