THE HARES' REBELLION || A glove puppet solo show for children
Director and designer Rimas Driežis decided to stage Kazys Binkis’s classic children’s poem "Kiškių sukilimas" (The Hares' Rebellion) in the spirit of a traditional English Punch and Judy puppet show. The result is a playful performance where rebellious hares march into interwar Kaunas, storm the Kaunas Theatre, and demand that opera star Kipras Petrauskas stop hunting them. This patriotic collage, woven from the poems of the classic Lithuanian writer and dramatist Kazys Binkis (1893–1942), is virtuously performed by a single actress, Lijana Muštašvili, using a variety of glove puppets. Children will love watching the hares' battles, while parents can immerse themselves in the nostalgic and ironic atmosphere of Lithuania's interwar capital.
