Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra Concert – World Violin Star LEILA JOSEFOWICZ

World-renowned violinist Leila Josefowicz returns to Lithuania. "Her virtuosity floats on waves of joyous energy" – so wrote the Los Angeles Times. The Canadian-born, US-based violin virtuoso will appear with the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Jonathan Stockhammer – the distinguished American conductor celebrated for his ability to deliver equally compelling interpretations of both the classical repertoire and contemporary music at the highest level. The concert will take place on 22 October at the Lithuanian National Philharmonic. "Her virtuosity is extraordinary, but even more striking is her expressive power" – the Los Angeles Times praised both Leila Josefowicz's superb technique and her captivating artistry. The violinist's journey onto the world's stages began exceptionally early. She was considered a child prodigy, started learning the violin at just three years of age, and at thirteen entered the prestigious Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. At sixteen, Leila made her debut at New York's Carnegie Hall with the legendary Academy of St Martin in the Fields and Sir Neville Marriner, and immediately afterwards signed her first exclusive recording contract with Philips Classics, launching an international career. Today Leila Josefowicz is a sought-after violinist at the world's most prestigious concert halls and major festivals, performing with top-tier orchestras across Europe, North America and Asia. She is regularly invited to appear with the Berlin Philharmonic, Royal Concertgebouw, Zurich Tonhalle, Berliner Konzerthaus, Leipzig Gewandhaus, London, Dresden, Oslo and Helsinki Philharmonics, the New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony and other leading ensembles. She collaborates with the most prominent conductors of our time – Esa-Pekka Salonen, Paavo Järvi, Susanna Mälkki, Louis Langrée, Hannu Lintu, John Storgårds, Matthias Pintscher, Cristian Măcelaru, Thomas Søndergård, Dalia Stasevska and with John Adams himself. The 2025–2026 season was particularly rich for the violin virtuoso: she gave the world premiere of Jüri Reinvere's Concerto for Violin, Harp and Orchestra with the Cleveland Orchestra conducted by Franz Welser-Möst, and performed with the New York Philharmonic, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Minnesota, Hong Kong Philharmonic, Zurich Tonhalle, Warsaw Philharmonic, Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra and other distinguished ensembles. Alongside the classical masterworks, contemporary music holds an important place in the violinist's activities. Josefowicz passionately champions impressive works of our time, continually incorporating them into her imaginative programmes, which has earned her a singular reputation as one of the foremost interpreters of today's music for violin. Composers who have written and dedicated works especially for her include John Adams, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Thomas Adès, Luca Francesconi, Colin Matthews and others. The violin virtuoso's repertoire also features the great classical masterworks: violin concertos by Brahms, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Dvořák, Sibelius, Bruch, Bartók and Berg, Bach's Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin, and virtuosic works by Paganini and Wieniawski. Conductor Jonathan Stockhammer's career is equally impressive. The charismatic and captivating conductor enriches every work he takes on with interpretive sensitivity and theatrical intuition. This internationally acclaimed baton master, with his broad creative vision, is regularly invited to conduct the London Symphony, Hamburg Elbphilharmonie, Oslo Philharmonic, Staatskapelle Dresden, Czech Philharmonic, Orchestre National de France, Yomiuri Nippon Symphony, Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony, Seoul Philharmonic, Sydney Symphony Orchestra and other top-calibre ensembles. He is also a welcome guest at Europe's most important festivals – Salzburg, Lucerne, the Venice Biennale, Wien Modern and others. Contemporary composers value Stockhammer as an exceptionally flexible, highly perceptive and experienced creative partner, capable of giving new works a compelling artistic form.
