Long-Form Improv Workshop (Vilnius)

In this workshop, you will learn how to develop improvisation characters and maintain them, nurturing their ideas and values. Typically, in the world of improvised performances, there are two categories: normal (human) and strange (radical). Normal characters – these correspond to people in our world. They have a variety of colors and qualities that do not reach the limits of absurdity. They are interesting, human, and represent the audience on stage. They create a connection with the audience through logic or humanity. Strange characters – these are characters with non-standard beliefs and an absurd view of the world. Often radical, by speaking the truth directly, they can find themselves in absurd situations. In the role of a strange character, the improviser seeks extremity and madness. They create a connection with the audience through emotions and qualities that we often suppress in life. We will explore the reactions, essential qualities, and viewpoints of these characters. After the workshop, you will better understand how you can be different than usual in these roles, surprising yourself and your partner. In the workshop, we will remember and learn how to: Discover interesting themes within context, nurture, and develop them. Once an interesting idea is found, not to overuse it and to use it tastefully. Organically distribute the roles of strange and normal characters. Change your character's perspective and acting tactics during the performance. Find clarity in group performances by dividing into normal and strange characters. Join situations or sketches created by colleagues, extend and strengthen them, rather than introducing chaos. Performers do not explain performance structures or methods to the audience. The performer, together with the team, must create challenges for themselves, overcome them, and surprise the audience. A strong long-form improviser is able to consciously control their emotions, make interesting decisions, step beyond their comfort zone, experiment, absorb information from their partner and environment, and utilize personal and colleagues' experiences to create strong content. The improvisation workshop will be led by Deividas Borodulinas – artistic director of the "Impro Kaunas" theater. He has performed in Oslo, Copenhagen, and Warsaw and studied improvisation with masters such as Will Hines, Adam Cawley, Rob Norman, Jeff Michalski, Monika Smith, Alex Berg, Inbal Lori, and others. Deividas has completed UCB and WGIS "game of the scene" style improvisation schools. He enjoys improvising strongly and constantly exploring the limits of improvisation possibilities. Deividas performs with the troupes "Mini-Fridge" (international), POSH, and also appears with "Impro Kaunas" theater members at private events.
