Lost Shtetl: Šeduva Express | Full-Day Excursion

Like a mirage emerging from the fog, „Dingęs štetlas“ (The Lost Shtetl) is one of the most anticipated museums in Lithuania in recent years. Along with it, the word „shtetl“ is reborn in our language. In Yiddish, it means a small town – this is how Jews referred to their places of residence. However, these were the same towns where Lithuanians also lived. Šeduva was one of more than 200 such shtetls. The „Dingęs štetlas“ museum sensitively and aesthetically reveals what once was. More than a hundred people, from Šeduva to Hollywood, worked on this exceptional creation, distinguished by both its architecture and creative solutions. Their main goal, and ours as your guides, is for at least one story of a person from Šeduva to find a place in your memory. During this full-day Vilnius–Šeduva–Vilnius excursion, we will explore not only the „Dingęs štetlas“ in the museum but also Šeduva itself – its buildings, streets, and signs bearing witness to lives cut short. During the excursion, we will draw lines between past and present, between the living and the dead, between ourselves and others. We will also visit the old Jewish cemetery of Šeduva – one of the few surviving witnesses to a once-flourishing community. The Park of Memories, a living memorial created by Italian landscape architects to honor the memory of Šeduva's Jews, will also leave a lasting impression. We won't neglect Jewish cuisine either – for lunch, we will taste bagels with forshmak, hummus, salmon, and fresh vegetables, refreshing ourselves with apple compote and coffee. From morning till evening, we will be accompanied by stories, memories, sounds, and tastes, helping us not only to understand but also to feel what an exceptionally rich culture thrived in the shtetls. Experiential Excursion Program: 8:00 AM departure from Vilnius „Akropolis" parking lot. The bus will be waiting behind rows 1-9 (before the excursion, we will send information with the bus's license plate number). The bus departs on time, so it is very important not to be late. Excursion to the „Dingęs štetlas" museum, Park of Memories, Šeduva Jewish cemetery. Bagel tasting at the „Molinė saulėgrąža" homestead. Excursion in Šeduva. ~8:30 PM return to Vilnius. The price includes: travel Vilnius–Šeduva–Vilnius, guide's narration on the bus, excursion in Šeduva, excursion to the „Dingęs štetlas“ museum, and bagel tasting.
