Lukiškės: Port, Beer, and a Lion | September 19th | Vilnius Tour

What do you imagine when you hear „Lukiškės“? Probably the former prison or the square, whose monuments and activities often spark discussions or even disputes. But in reality, Lukiškės is one of Vilnius's oldest historical suburbs, starting near the Cathedral and stretching all the way to modern-day Lazdynai or even Karoliniškės! During the tour, we will explore a part of this vast territory, which holds countless stories. We will talk about Tatars and a mosque, about the terrible stench raised by the tanners working in the area, about old Vilnius factories, breweries, and even a port! You will learn why Spanish and Portuguese were spoken there in the 1950s. We will also show you the houses where a Nobel laureate, a lion, and a hit song author lived. We will also remember "America," which Vilnius residents rushed to Lukiškės to "taste" in the early years of independence. Modern art installations, a synagogue, and houses adorned with nature motifs also await: Lukiškės is truly more than just a square and a prison.🦁 Tour start: Lithuanian National Martynas Mažvydas Library (the guide will be waiting for you on the library steps)🚢 Duration: ~2.5 hours.🍺Tour end: near Liubartas Bridge. Please do not be late and have a copy of your ticket saved on your phone. The guide's phone will be silenced during the tour, so your options for joining late will be quite limited. Children under 10 years old, participating with adults, do not need a ticket, but please assess your child's capabilities and consider their willingness to participate in the tour.
