Symphonic Suite "The Ring Without Words" (Lorin Maazel's arrangement) DANIEL MÜLLER-SCHOTT, cello LITHUANIAN STATE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA Conductor GINTARAS RINKEVIČIUS Daniel Müller-Schott is one of today's most prominent and acclaimed cellists. For many years, he has been an ambassador for classical music, collaborating with the most renowned orchestras and conductors worldwide and building bridges between music, literature, and visual arts. The American newspaper "The New York Times" highlights D. Müller-Schott's "compelling expressiveness" and praises him for "bold interpretations and extraordinary technique". The cellist is a regular guest of the world's most famous orchestras – he has performed with the New York, Boston, Cleveland, Chicago, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Berlin, London, Oslo Philharmonics, Leipzig "Gewandhaus", Sydney, Melbourne, Tokyo NHK, and many other symphony orchestras. The artist's repertoire spans different eras – from Baroque to contemporary. His creative curiosity is evidenced by his continuous search for new works, created arrangements, and musical dialogue with contemporary composers. Over a career spanning more than thirty years, D. Müller-Schott has embodied the music of J. S. Bach, W. A. Mozart, L. van Beethoven, J. Brahms, and many other eminent composers in his work, with recordings that have garnered numerous awards. In Vilnius, D. Müller-Schott will perform Antonín Dvořák's (1841–1904) Cello Concerto in B minor. For a long time, when asked to write a cello concerto, A. Dvořák consistently refused, believing the instrument was better suited for chamber music. However, the composer later decided to undertake such a work. And he was not mistaken – the Cello Concerto in B minor became one of the most outstanding works in the cello repertoire worldwide. In the second part of the concert, the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra , conducted by its artistic director and chief conductor Gintaras Rinkevičius, will perform the essence of Richard Wagner's (1813–1883) titanic opera tetralogy "Der Ring des Nibelungen" – the symphonic suite "The Ring Without Words" (German: Der Ring Ohne Worte), arranged in 1987 by American conductor Lorin Maazel. The suite's structure strictly follows the chronology of musical events in R. Wagner's cycle – from the prelude to "Das Rheingold" to the final chords of "Götterdämmerung". Such famous symphonic pictures as "Ride of the Valkyries", "Siegfried's Rhine Journey", and Siegfried's Funeral March are harmoniously woven into the overall flow of the musical action. Wagner's dense, colorful, infinitely changing, and inventive symphonic language is like an ocean, in whose depths all emotions and feelings, all movements of the soul, and all motives that drive the opera characters to act are born. Observing the currents, storms, and tranquility of this ocean is a journey that in itself becomes a meaningful experience.
