Maestro Juozas Domarkas' 90th Anniversary. LNSO, Mūza Rubackytė, Modestas Pitrėnas

Performers: LITHUANIAN NATIONAL SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA (Artistic Director and Chief Conductor Modestas Pitrėnas) Soloist MŪZA RUBACKYTĖ (piano; Lithuania, France, Switzerland) Conductor MODESTAS PITRĖNAS Program: RICHARD WAGNER – Overture to the opera "Rienzi" FERENC LISZT – Piano Concerto No. 2 in A major, S. 125 ANTONÍN DVOŘÁK – Symphony No. 9 in E minor, Op. 95, B 178 "From the New World" ("Z nového světa") This concert will commemorate the 90th birthday of Maestro Juozas Domarkas, Honorary Conductor of the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra. One of the most renowned Lithuanian conductors, particularly important in Lithuanian musical culture, and a highly experienced and influential conducting pedagogue, he served as the LNSO's Artistic Director and Chief Conductor for 51 years. Highly valued for his mature and cultured musical thinking, and his vivid and emotional performance style, J. Domarkas was invited from the very beginning of his career to conduct not only Lithuanian but also prominent European orchestras, and led opera and ballet productions at the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre and the Klaipėda Musical Theatre. To congratulate the maestro and remember his meaningful musical activity, one of Lithuania's most famous pianists, Mūza Rubackytė, will perform Ferenc Liszt's Second Piano Concerto. The evening's program will also feature monumental works by Liszt's contemporaries – Richard Wagner and Antonín Dvořák.
