Markučiai Contrasts | Exhibition

We invite you to the opening of the exhibition “Markačiai Contrasts” on April 29 at 18:00. During the event, the exhibition will be presented by its curator, and visitors will have the opportunity to meet and chat with the authors of the exhibited works. Walking through Markačiai, the eye is drawn to contrasts. On one side, new-build apartment blocks cut into the sky, while wooden houses stand right nearby. The Vilnelė river marks the boundary between city asphalt and forest meadows. In this neighbourhood, contrasts become an everyday companion – they shape not only the environment, but also one’s relationship with it. The exhibition “Markačiai Contrasts” invites visitors to look at these layers through the eyes of local creators. It presents works by artists living in Markačiai: watercolours by Irena Shu, photographs by Kotryna Misiūnė, and paintings by Andrius Kviliūnas. Irena works in the medical field and creates in various techniques in her spare time; Kotryna is a journalist and documentary photographer; Andrius is a painter and video artist. Although the works explore different themes and employ different visual languages, they meet in the space of the manor and create new connections and meanings. In the exhibition, Markačiai Manor reveals itself not only as a historical site but also as a living community space. The museum here is not a neutral backdrop – its architecture, interior and natural light become active parts of the works, shaping the relationship between artwork, environment and viewer. The exhibition will be on view at the museum until June 30. It can be visited with a ticket during museum opening hours: Tue–Thu 15:00–19:00 Fri–Sat 11:00–19:00 Exhibition curator: Agnėška Kovalevskaja Exhibition architect: Akvilė Brazauskaitė Exhibition coordinator: Mantas Jančiauskas Graphic design: Eglė Pundzevičiūtė We thank those who contributed to the realisation of the exhibition: Vidas Poška, Helmut Šabasevičius, Eglė Ridikaitė.
