Mikhail Bulgakov ZOYA'S APARTMENT dir. Rolandas Atkočiūnas

Two-part performance Mikhail Bulgakov's (1891–1940) celebrated comedy Zoya's Apartment – by the author of The Master and Margarita, Heart of a Dog and other works. A delightfully entertaining text (translation into Lithuanian via subtitles), a kaleidoscope of costumed interludes, a string of life's paradoxes and grotesque characters – all reflecting the NEP (New Economic Policy) era of pre-war Soviet Russia: a brief flowering of the free market when people, sensing the transience of this respite, plunged headlong into uninhibited pleasures and passions. An entire constellation of theatre stars fills a good dozen extravagant roles. The central character – the mad fashion salon owner Zoya Pelts – is embodied by the temperamental Inga Maškarina. Director Rolandas Augustinas Atkočiūnas, returning to the Vilnius Old Theatre stage after a long absence, enlisted the celebrated Latvian set designer Mārtiņš Vilkārsis and the experienced master of stage melody, composer Giedrius Puskunigis. Audiences will also delight in the stylish retro dress gallery created by costume designer Jolanta Rimkutė. Atelier!
