Michelle Gurevich | Vilnius

Michelle's seventh bedroom-recorded album, 'It Was the Moment,' will not disappoint those awaiting a new soundtrack for their darkness and *saudade*. It might be her most vulnerable and expressive work to date – which is hardly surprising, as it was created during a period of grief and mental instability. These songs reveal a new level of emotional openness, confirming her place in the tradition of dramatic *chansonniers*. Themes include fatal surrender to passion, the fleeting nature of encounters, the loss of a mother and home, the end of the world, and the loss of mind in both the best and worst senses. Here, Michelle presents her full sonic palette – from dark, Lynchian realism to elegant humor and the persona of a queen of epic melodramatics. Constantly performing to sold-out venues in cities like Istanbul, Berlin, Warsaw, and Athens, Michelle has carved out a unique niche, encompassing Eastern European expatriates, Berlin's queer scene, and those who appreciate the melodramatic ballads of Charles Aznavour, Zeki Müren, and Nikolay Slichenko. Although her concerts feature more live music elements and a band, she continues to produce and release her albums herself, maintaining intimacy and a unified expression – from her bedroom to yours. This is a genre based not only on elements of melody and style but even more so on a distinctive, fatally festive approach to songwriting.
