MOLARS: PART I - FUNCTION

The course examines the essential principles of functional posterior restorations and the anatomy of posterior teeth. We will discuss how anatomical proportions work and why correct proportions matter more than the number of grooves. Considerable attention is given to extending the service life of everyday direct composite restorations on the basis of current scientific evidence. We will examine composite modelling techniques and the use of flowable composite in reconstructing natural occlusal anatomy. We will discuss how mixing different flowable composites can create subtle anatomical and optical effects. Step by step, a fast and systematic protocol for direct posterior restorations will be presented, preserving the key anatomical landmarks of each tooth. Restorative methods that make it possible to achieve a high aesthetic result when restoring teeth previously filled with amalgam or discoloured after endodontic treatment will also be discussed. Attention will be given to practical tips that help avoid lengthy occlusal adjustment and excessive polishing at the end of treatment. The theoretical part will cover the protocol for Class I and Class II restorations used in everyday clinical practice. We will also look at the scientific evidence and discuss why, in clinical practice, some things are not always what they seem at first glance. Practical part: Class I restorations on 3D-printed maxillary models, restoring both molars and premolars. The course materials also include a digital guide to occlusal anatomy and a tooth anatomy drawing tutorial.
