MOLARS: PART II - PROFUNDA

The course examines the concept of applying direct restorative methods in the reconstruction of severely damaged teeth, and also discusses appropriate case selection. The main principles of conservative caries treatment and the most common misconceptions about cavity preparation will be addressed. We will discuss the line between minimally invasive treatment and the question: when does conservative preparation become too conservative? Cusp reconstruction with direct composite will be examined in detail - from treatment planning to the final result. Step by step, we will present how to rebuild lost cusps using aesthetic direct composite. We will also discuss the planning and execution of aesthetic cusp coverage in cases where the occlusal height (vertical dimension of occlusion) is increased. Deep restorative margin: Deep Margin Elevation and its technique will be examined in cases where the tooth has no distal contact point. We will discuss the treatment of caries in the second molar after extraction of the wisdom tooth, and compare deep margin elevation with vertical tooth preparation, reviewing the principles of applying both methods. Aesthetics and anatomy: A separate part of the course is devoted to the variety of posterior tooth anatomy. We will discuss anatomical variations, the possibilities and limits of reconstructing them, and how different anatomical forms can be applied in clinical practice. We will also talk about the importance of experimentation and creativity in reconstructing natural dental anatomy. Clinical photography: The course will present the fundamentals of high-quality clinical photography of posterior teeth. We will discuss how to choose a suitable camera and lighting both for everyday clinical documentation and for artistic dental photography. Practical part: Rubber dam placement, tips and tricks. A Class II restoration with molar cusp reconstruction on a 3D-printed mandible model. The course materials also include a digital guide to occlusal anatomy and a tooth anatomy drawing tutorial.
