Movement performance-meditation “Rieduliai” (Boulders)
On 17 October at 5 p.m. dancers of two different generations meet in the movement performance-meditation “Rieduliai” (Boulders). Boulders are large stones. You can find them in fields or along riverbanks. In some places there are several of them, or even an entire boulder field. We carry quite a few of them inside ourselves. On our shoulders or beneath our hearts. As the years pass, we gradually accumulate more and more. They make us heavy. And life with them is heavy. They are hard to carry. Rolling is far easier. When you can no longer lift, perhaps you can roll? When you can no longer walk forward, perhaps you can roll onward?“Rieduliai” is a meditative movement piece and experience about no longer being able, about accepting that inability and pushing off from it, and so finding other ways to act. Using various kinds of rolling as a way of travelling, the dancers create a slowly shifting landscape with their bodies in space. Different images emerge within it: from motifs of nature to recognisable human actions and states. They surface and sink back into the rolling journey, filling the space with calm and leaving ample room for the viewer's imagination. In 2023 she completed contemporary dance studies at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree and a teaching qualification. After her studies Dominyka joined the professional dance scene as a performer and creator. She has collaborated with various Lithuanian and international choreographers, among them Lukas Karvelis, Liza Baliasnaja, Palle Granhøj, Nicolas Cantillon and Pietro Marullo. In 2024 Dominyka was nominated for the Golden Stage Cross for her performance in the solo dance piece „Kur krantas“ (choreographer Lukas Karvelis). That same year she was named the most memorable dancer of 2024 and received the award of the Contemporary Dance Association. Aistė Kriukelytė has been part of the contemporary dance world for more than 30 years. She also holds a diploma in integrative body and movement therapy (IBMT Institute, UK) and a master's degree in dance movement therapy (VU/LMTA, Vilnius). She has created choreography for several dance performances („4-2-3“, „Čia buvo vanduo“) and for a number of miniatures. Her works have been shown at the New Baltic Dance festival (2008, 2020) and in Mexico (2018). Aistė works extensively with somatic movement: as a dancer and choreographer, as a therapist and as an educator. She explores the limits of applying somatic movement, which leads to innovative ideas (movement guided by scent, dance for a single spectator and so on). She teaches somatic movement at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre.
