Movement solo performance “Kraitis” (Dowry)

I knitted it, tangled it, muddled it, wound it up. Other women taught me, and I learned by myself, willingly or without noticing. To get tangled, to get knotted. To unpick, untie, wash out, disentangle, sort. And to knit it all again. Every time from the beginning, I repeat the same thing, I weave the same armour again. Faster, more efficiently, and always just as uncomfortable. Because I know how to crochet a pretty doily and to feel permanently insufficient, I know how to knit and to take on every task, I know how to sew and to lose myself in others. Giedrė Kirkilė is a dance performer, creator and lecturer at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre. Her roles in dance performances have twice earned her a nomination for the Golden Stage Cross award, and she has received prizes from the Contemporary Dance Association for the most memorable creators of the season. In 2023, for her contribution to nurturing the field of Lithuanian contemporary dance, Giedrė received the highest award of the Ministry of Culture - the badge of honour “Carry Your Light and Believe”. As an artist, Giedrė values an open, self-ironic look at herself and the world, and the vulnerability and intimacy of the performer, which nevertheless never turns into self-therapy on stage.
