MUSIC FOR GOURMETS – CONCERT OF THE 21st INTERNATIONAL FOLKLORE FESTIVAL „POKROVO VARPAI“

MUSIC FOR GOURMETS – THE PEARL OF THE 21st INTERNATIONAL FOLKLORE FESTIVAL „POKROVO VARPAI“ For more than two decades, the international folklore festival „Pokrovo varpai“ has been an inseparable part of the capital's cultural life – one of the best-known events of ethnic culture in Europe, bringing together a large community bound by strong ties and making Lithuania and Vilnius known throughout the world. The festival's traditional concert MUSIC FOR GOURMETS, to be held at St Catherine's Church in Vilnius, is a special opportunity to experience folklore as it has been preserved and passed down to this day by the communities of different nations. In this two-part concert, the finest folklore ensembles from Lithuania and abroad – Armenia, Bulgaria, Latvia, Poland, Lithuania, Spain, Norway, Georgia, Serbia and Ukraine – will perform, bringing the musical traditions of their lands, which sound just as authentic as they did centuries ago. Listeners will hear unique examples of traditional music preserved to our day, in which the worldview, rhythms and melodic memory of different nations unfold. It is like a living dialogue with the past, allowing one to feel how tradition breathes today and how the voices of different cultures merge into a common, inspiring musical whole. The festival's distinctiveness lies in its deep respect for traditional folklore and for the cultural heritage values protected by UNESCO. In the second part of the concert, the audience will hear Georgian polyphonic music. The ensemble „Gurulebi“ of the Ozurgeti Culture Centre in the Guria region will present authentic examples of Gurian folklore – of a land where tradition sounds in every voice. The concert's guests will not only enjoy exceptional musical performances but will also see vivid national costumes, hear rare instruments with a distinctive sound, and admire folk dances that tell entire histories of nations. It is an evening in which music becomes a journey – to the roots of cultures, to the memory of people, to what unites us. MUSIC FOR GOURMETS is an invitation to experience folklore as a living, breathing art that inspires, unites and enriches. The festival is organised by the Lithuanian Centre of National Minorities' Folklore and Ethnography. The event was supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania, the Lithuanian Council for Culture, the Vilnius City Municipality and the Department of National Minorities under the Government of the Republic of Lithuania. Festival partners: the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Society, the Bronius Jonušas Music School of Vilnius, St Catherine's Church, Vilnius University, the Vilnius Old Town Renewal Agency, the Vilnius Culture Centre, the Lithuanian Old Believers' Church, „Alaus namai“.
